The Lorrie Klempa Davis Memorial Scholarship

Lorrie Jo Klempa was born on February 17, 1960, a daughter of Jake and Geneva Klempa of West Bellaire. She attended West Bellaire Grade School, and then Bellaire High School where she graduated in the class of 1979. Following her graduation from BHS, she attended Belmont Technical College to pursue a career in nursing. She graduated in 1980 with her degree and certificate as a licensed practical nurse. She worked at the Good Shepard Nursing Home.

Lorrie was tragically murdered on August 29, 1985, at her home in Bellaire, leaving a son Andrew Jacob Ricer Davis. Her death sparked an effort to raise funds for a reward for information leading to the apprehension of her killer.  These funds were eventually transferred to the Bellaire High School Endowment Fund for the establishment of a Scholarship Fund for BHS graduates intending to pursue a career in nursing, or some associated medical field.

Guidelines for the Lorrie Klempa Davis Award

This scholarship is $400 payable in the first year of schooling beyond high school. To be eligible for the award, a graduating student of Bellaire High School must intend to pursue a career in nursing or some other medical related field of study. The student must also have maintained a cumulative GPA of C or 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. Of those students who are eligible, selection of the recipient will be made on the basis of grades, financial need, input and recommendation of Geneva Klempa (Lorrie's mother), and the input and recommendation of the health teachers at BHS. Applications for the award are maintained in the Bellaire High School Guidance Office. All applicants for the award must submit them in completed form to the Guidance Office not later than March 1 to be considered for the Award to be made in May at the Bellaire High School Awards Assembly.
